■ After organising a new party Mr Roosevelt formally withdrew from the Convention and issued a manifesto declaring that the Convention did not repjesß/it Republican voters, but was merely & successful fraud in over-riding the rank and file, and it was deeply discreditable to any man to accept its nomination. He announced that the new party's motto would be "Thou shalt not steal."

The result of the Convention vote was: Taft, 561; Roosevelt, 107; La Follette, 4i; Cummins, 17; Hughes, 2. Delegates to the number of 344 did not vote
