On Friday, June 14, I had a good entry of mostly yearlings and cows in my Kaponga yards. The demand was good throughout, a clearance being made at the following rates: —Yearling heifers, from £2 2s 6d to £3 6s; poorer, £1 2s 6d to £1 12s 6d; steers, £1 12s; bulls, £1 11s to £3 lls 6d; store cows, £2 13s to £3 9s; forward cows, £3 lls to £4 ss; fat cows, small, £4 lls to £5 4s; empty 20 months heifers, £3 9s to £3 15s; dairy cows, small, £4 Is to £5 4s; empty 20 months heifers, £3 9s to £3 15s; dairy cows, £8 2s 6d to £8 10s. At Albert Road on Monday, June 17, there was a very good attendance and good competition for the cows sold on account of Mrs Beilby. Prices realised were: For best, £7 5s to £9 ss; others, £4 to £6; bulls, £7; on account of other vendors, dairy cows, from £5 to £11 103.
My Rahotu yards were well filled on Tuesday, June 18. and I had a good attendance. Competition was very keen, good cows and yearlings selling at improved rates. Several pens of 2-year heifers, in calf, were yarded but did not reach the reserves, these being the only cattle not sold during the day. ColoreQ yearling heifers, up to £ 41s; good, £2 6s; poor, £1 8s to £1 9s; yearling steers, best, £1 7s 6d to £2; others, 14s to £1 2s 6d; yearling bulls, £1 16s; 20 months steers, £3 8s 6d; 20 months empty heifers, £3 7s 6d; 20 months heifers, in calf, £3 15s to £4 ss; 20 months Holstein heifer, in calf, £5 14s, store cows, £2 Is to £3 16s; forward cows, £4 12s 6d; fat cows, £5 13s; Rahotu Dairy Factory shares, 8s 6d. On Wednesday, June 19, notwithstanding the wretched weather, I had an excellent attendance at the Ngariki Road, Rahotu, for C. Henderson's clearing sale. The cows, which were a good lot met with good competition, averaging for the line, £9 2s 6d; best quality cows realised from £11 to £14 ss; good, £7 5s to £9 15s; backward or poor, £6 5s to £6 10s; three-quarter cows, £5; yearling steers, £2 Is; harness mare, £12; dray, £8. At Oaonui on Thursday, June 20, at Mr McCaul's dispersal* sale, buyers again attended in good numbers and made good competition for the dairy cattle. Good cows realised from £8 15s to £14; late calvers and poor, from £4 to £7 10s; cows, £4 to £4 los; empty Jersey cow, £5; 2-year grade heifers, in calf (nice line), £5 7s 6d; 2-year grade Jersey bull, £5 2s 6d; 4-year mare, £21 15s; 5-year mare, £12 los; 6-year mare, £20 10s.
Private sales for week.—F. M. ewes, 9s 6d to 10s Gd; 2-tooth ewes, in lamb, los; fat ewes, 15s; fat wethers, 16s; hoggets, 9s to 10s 6d; poor, 6s 3d; 20 months steers, small, £3; empty heifers, small, £3 to £3 ss;. 20 months heifers, in calf, £4 10s; 3-year heifers, m calf, £6 to £6 15s; store cows, £3 3s; fresh conditioned cows, £4 2s 6d; fat heifers, £5 ss; fat cows,, small, £5: fat and forward bullocks, £8 5s to £8 15s; gelding, £25; draught gelding, £35; dairy cows, £5 to £9 10s; and a choice line of 28 Jersey cows on account of Mr W. M. Stephenson, of Tariki, to Mr A. T. Peters, of Kakaramea, at £20 per head. These cows were all well bred, being descended from MrHulke's "-ell-known herd, several being by Mr E. Griffth's pedigree bull Stephenson.
