A CROWDED ASYLUM.

REMOVAL OF PATIENTS

BY TELEGEAPH—FRET? ASSOCIATION.

AUCKLAND, June 21. The buildings at the Quarantine Island., Motuihi, are being got in order for the reception of about a hundred patients from the Avondale Mental Hospital, which is at present so overcrowded. In the meantime, about fifty patients will be sent up within the next fortnight to the new hospital at Tokanui, near ifihikihl, and this will give immediate relief. The accommodation at these outside places is, of course, only temporary, and plans are now being prepared at Wellington for the permanent enlargement of the buildings at Avondale, in accordance with the scheme outlined by the Minister for Internal Affairs when he was in Auckland.
