.NEW YORK, June 20. At Stockton, California, an armed robber with a blackened face, held up a river launch containing a pleasure party and robbed them of all their valuables. He compelled the engineer to land all those aboard and pursue another launch with the intention of robbing its occupants. The engineer, Rus, knocked the robber overboard and a passenger beat the robber to death, using oars for the purpose. His body was recovered.
