TECHNICAL INSTRUCTION.

CONFERENCE OF TEACHERS

Mr G. D. Braik, chief inspector and superintendent of manual and technical instruction under the Wanganui Education Board, held a conference of teachers in Hawera on Thursday night "to discuss various matters in connection with the High School course, and especially the rural course.

Mr E. Dixon, chairman of the HaTvera Technical School Committee, presided.

The teachers present were: Mr T. Thomas and Mr H. Jackson' (Eltliam), Sfr G. Robbie and Mr Wells (Patea), Mr Thomas (science master), Miss Reid, and Mr C. A. Strack (Hawera), Mies Strack (cookery instructor), Mr Rich--ardson (art instructor), and Mr R. A. Browne (supervisor for northern district).

Matters relating to the text-books and in connection with the harmonious running of the rural and domestic instruction conjointly with the ordinary ■district high school classes were discuss--ed.

It v.-ns pointed out t*tat the Education Department was inaugurating a •new system of certificates, which would carry the pupils of the rural and domestic courses to the training college imd university. It was also stated that the Board had apportioned a large nuin3ter of scholarships which would now be available to students taking the rural -course at the district high schools. Mr Braik went to-day to Marton. where he will hold a similar conference "with the southern teachers. He will subsequently submit a report of' the two conferences io his Board.
