HOCKEY.
The hockey season opened at Opunake on Wednesday (says our correspondent), and although the ground was wet and sloppy, some very fair play was seen. The Rahotu team suffered defeat at the hands of Egmont by 3 goals to 2; while Ihaia beat Opua by two goals to nil. Considering the state of the grounds, the games were fast and open.
Hawern and Kaponga A teams met on Thursday afternoon, and an interesting match resulted in a draw, each side scaring two goals. E. Sargent scored for Hawera, and the Rev. Mr Rands for Kaponga. Mr P. Pratt was referee.
