SYDNEY, June 20. H.M.S. Encounter had a sensational experience on the Tasman Sea on Saturday, May 25. She left Auckland on May 24, and at ten o'clock the following night she suddenly encountered an extremely heavy sea. A aigantic wave flooded the after part, filling the wardroom, knocking the bottom out of the galley, doing other damage, and nearly washing the men off the bridge. The commander attributes the incident tr» o submarine volcanic disturbance, the phenomena coinciding with the seismic disturbance in New Zealand.
