FIRST DAY. BT TELEGEAPH—PEESS ASSOCIATION. HASTINGS, June 19. The Hawke's Bay Jockey Club's winter meeting opened to-day in fine weather. The course was in good going order. The totalisator investments amounted to £11,297, as compared with £9128 for the corresponding day last year. The following are the remaining results of th« rating:— Hawke's Bay Steeplechase; 3 miles. Glenmore, 10.2 (Rangi Thompson), 1; Beeline, 9.12, 2; The Spaniard, 9.7, 3. Also started: Whalcaweira, Appin, Winiata, and Flamingo. Won by a furlong, with, about the same distance separating second and third. Winiata fell, W. D. Young (the rider) being badly shaken. Time, 6.40. Whakatu Handicap Hurdles.—Bravest, 1; Nescot, 2; Master Stead, 3. Also started: St. Toney,. Bismarck, Golden Loop, Merriwa, Moahau, Alma, and Waiao. Won by four lengths. Time, 3.19. " ' Hunt Cup Steeplechase.—The Chief, 1; Morihiko, 2; W Theturangi. 3. Also started: Longboat, Cavill, Otupoi, Zumerztfit, and Pukeroa. Won by a furlong. Time, 5.14. Heretaunga Handicap.—Thrave, 1; Loch Mabin, 2; Moimt Victoria, 3. Also started: Sublime, Irish Rifle, Lord Renown, San Pluie, Lexis. Chillinan, Kilosteri, VI, Amato, Waikehua, Miss Jewel, Moutoa Girl, r>nd Easy. Won by two lengths. Time, 1.30.
