Sir George Askwith has written to Lord Devonport, chairman of the Port of London Authority, endeavoring to arrange terms for the transport worker-: to resume work.

Lord Devonport replied, declining to .promise to meet representatives of the men. If they resumed work he would willingly discuss any suggestions by the Government.

The Foreman Lightermen's Society manned a dozen tugs and brought of barges to the Tilbury, Victoria, Surrey and Commercial docks. The police guarded the barges.

, The Sailors and Firemen's Society has balloted against the strike.
