MERCHANTS' ASSOCIATION

A DENIAL.

BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION

WELLINGTON, June 18. H. A. Gold, secretary of the Merchants' Association of New Zealand., writes to the Press Association, with respect to the evidence of Nottingham before the Cost of Living Commission that Mr Harold Beauchamp asked the Jeyes Company to place the distributing of their compounds in the hands of the Merchants' Associatlion, denying its correctness. Mr Gold says there is nothing in the correspondence to show this, and that Mr Beauchamp informs him that no such request was made; wtat he asked was that manufacturers should protect their own article by seeing that it was handled by those who distributed it at a reasonable rate of profit, and the Jeyes Company supported this view.
