STRATFORD MAIN TRUNK LINE.

RATE OF PROGRESS

[By Telegkaph—Special to Star.] WELLINGTON, June 17.

In an interview which I had to-day with Mr Mac Donald, Minister of Public Works, he said, with regard to the Main Trunk line, that on his recent visit he had found it open to Te Wera,' 22 miles from Stracford, and it will be open next month to Pohokura. Rails and ballast are being laid between the 31st and 44th mile points, and bushfelling has been al™os!; completed to Tangarakau, 57i- miles; but bridges have yet to ue l»..ut. The completion of the tunnel will enable material for the bridges to be got through expeditiously. The survey party is occupied in locating the line into the Tangarakau Gorge, 64 miles from Stratford. At the Te Koura end the earthworks are in hand for a couple of miles, and a service road is being made which will suit for general purposes later on.
