MELBOURNE, June 17. The action of Archbishop Clarke against John Norton, editor and proprietor of the newspaper Truth, claiming £5000 damages, .has commenced. The alleged libel was contained in an article published about two years ago, dealing with the case of Canon Nash, wherein the Archbishop was stigmatised as a "nightman, a pestilent parasite, an inquisitor and an Anglican anarchist," and was challenged to meet the writer in a court of law.
(This case has occupied the attention of the Supreme Court in Victoria at various times during the last two years, and up to the present the costs have run into some thousands of pounds).
