THREATENED TRAMWAY STRIKE.

CHRISTCHURCH, June 17. A special meeting of the Tramway Board was held to-day to consider the threat of the union to suspend the service on Monday afternoon to hold a demonstration to protest against the grievances re the roster. The following motion was carried -."That it is the desire of the Board to maintain cordial relations with its staff, and to this end the Board has, at all times, been ready to give sympathetic consideration to any reasonable complaint, or to give effect to any practical suggestions, and whereas the Board is well assured that the large majority of the staff are not only loyal to the service, but equally desirous with the Board to uphold its present high standard, and will co-operate with the Board in such endeavor, the union be informed that any man not so disposed who deserts his duty or fails to report for duty at the appointed time, willb'e deemed to have left the service without notice, and will render himself liable to the penalties entailed by such action."
