AUSTRALIAN PROPOSALS

The Commerce Congress adopted the Manchester Chamber's resolution asking the next Imperial Conference to remove the hai'dships of duplicated claims on taxpayers in different parts of the Empire.
Mr Meek (Sydney) proposed, and Mr Alcock (Sydney) seconded, that bills of lading should set out the fact that freight is being paid. Under the present position it was sometimes necessary to pay freight twice before goods could be obtained. The motion was carried.
Mr Meek's motion that the Government or municipal authorities in such undertakings as gas, eleeti-ic lighting, and tram services, should publish an annual balance-sheet, was ( adopted.
