SELECTIONS FOR FOOTBALL

. Sir, —I would like to draw your attention to an injustice that has been done to the players of South Taranaki by the Taranaki Rugby Union. During the past two seasons no North versus South match has been played as the Union considered that there was no time between the cup fixtures and the commencement of the rep. matches. This year they put off the cup fixtures in the north end to allow a southern club team to play a combined northern team. I will not comment on the audacity of a ■club team being bold enough to pit themselves against a representative .New Zealand team, but would like to ask you if it would not have been fairer if the match had been a North v. South contest. There are a number of players in this division who would be well worth a trial, and it only needs for them to be seen by the northern selectors and I am sure they would be Kiven a trial. One player in particular who is entitled to a place is Johnstone, of the Hawera Club. His form on the local ground justifies Mis worth to L inclusion in the rep. team, and his club mates inform fe that he is the same ; away from home. I hope to see his *»rtnio amongst the team to play against "Wangamii. I only wish to draw your attention to ■the position, as I notice that the only fresh players in the team hail from the northern division or-the Waimnte Club. i.nd I think if the match had been a North v.
