OLD VETERANS.
(By Our Tokaora Correspondent.)
As a shareholder in the Dominion Show Buildings, I am pleased to note that the chairman and directors are advertising free admission to "all" veterans. My advocacy has been for those veterans \vho took part in the fighting with the Maoris up to 1869. A bald head and snow-white whiskers do not constitute a war veteran; he may be well advanced in years, and perhaps one |of those fellows who, during the North "Island troubles, resided in the South Island, and be one of the band who wanted to cut the painter, and who refused help when we needed it. This class we do not want to- honor, but those nlen who shouldered the rifle and daily went lorth to conquor the North Island, and therefore risked their lives ur> to the end of all probable trouble. These are the brave men it is o«r object to honor. , On Saturday afternoon, when the banners' Union meeting was over, I had a chat with a few genuine veterans, flho are entitled to be now honored It was agreed that a few of them would with the secretary fMr Con roy) as to who are entitled'to free tickets and to whom they ought to b* wavir 36?' reCluire these olcl Tsecretary!^ hm*** "P the ***«* The following veterans are easily reached m town : Messrs John F?vn (Te-Ngutu-o-te-xMani^. Mr jies Livington (Te-Nptu O . t e-Mann) is daily/in town It is to be sincerely hoped the tickets ftay be worthy of the r ause -- a thing of beauty, ancl^such .asjihe recipient ca n ants as a heirloom, and not a scrawl ed posted nCTI °n the b3Ck °f » «
