BATTLESHIP AND SUBMARINE
TWENTY-SIX LIVES LOST.
*T CABLE--PEESS ASSOCIATION—COPY. EIGHT PARIS, June 9. The.battleship St. Louis collided with and cut in two the submarine Vendemaire at Cherbourg.' Twenty-six of the <t<*w were drowned.
A submarine practising an attack rose tmde'r the Saint Louis's bow and %ank in 170 ft. of water. A great bubbling on the surface ensued,!and the sea was ■covered with oil. Portions of the submarine's deck rose within "12 minutes. The warships immediately anchored on the spot, but nothing further was seen.
