A special meeting of the Town Board was held on Tuesday evening. Commissioners Death and Mills were appointed to give evidence on behalf of the Board before the Railway Commission. The various bodies iv the district giving evidence before the Commission would meeet the following evening to finally go into the matter of the evidence that would be given. The numerous complaints that had been received as to the insufficient lighting uf dangerous places on the roads after dark, caused by the progress of the water and drainage works, was referred to. It was resolved to instruct the contractor to increase the lighting to the satisfaction of the Board's officer: failing that, to light the works at the contractor's expense, in accordance with the terms of the Board's agreement with him. A. meeting of the Domain Board followed, when tenders for the lease of the domain were considered. Four were received:.-A. L. J. Prestidge, £1 10s 6d per acre: Geo. Death, £1 17s 6d; D. H. Briggs, £2 os 6d; A. E. King, £2 13s. The latter, being the highest, was accepted. It was agreed to see that the late lessee put the fences in a state ■c»f thorough repair, in accordance with the terms of his lease. An occasional correspondent writes as follows: Mr Alf. King is about to make •very substantial additions to his ai-! ready well-appointed stables, and has let ';a contract for the addition of another 60ft. to the present building, as well as an 18ft. lean-to containing four loose fooxes. In order to bring his business more up-to-date, the proprietor has just purchased a very fine brougham for hire purposes, and this should prove a great •convenience to the public of that district.
