With three wickets down for 564 the Australians declared their innings closed. Bowling analysis.—Douglas, 2 for 107: Buckenham, 0 for 167; Mead, 0 for 121; McGahey, 0 for 38; Russell, 1 33; Freeman, 0 for 30; Carpenter, 0 for 46. Bardsley made eighteen fours. Douglas and Fane opened to Whitty and Emery. Douglas gave a chance to Kel'eway in the slips off Emery before scoring. The play was slow, 50 taking 75 minutes. Fane who was off-driving well, was nearly caught at 10 by Matthews at short-leg. Douglas was'watchful. The century was completed in 118 minutes. There were frequent changes in the bowling.
