HAWERA BOY SCOUTS

GENER -VL BADEN-POWELIAS VISIT.

Lieutenant-General Sir Robert BadenPowell is due in Auckland on the 26th inst., and in Wellington on Wednesday, 29th. Arrangements have been made by the Wellington Scouts to accord their chief scout fai enthusiastic reception, and invitations-have been sent to the various Scout centres in Wellington, Wanganui, and New Plymouth districts. A special invitation has been received by the Hawera troop to be present, as they were the runners-up in the competition for the King's Standard, which, but for a technical error on their part, would now have been in their possession. At a meeting of the district committee last night it was decided to arrange for as many of the local Scouts as possible to attend the Wellington demonstration under the scoutmaster (Captain Brunt), who put up a world's record in scout-fcraining, having secured the biggest percentage of "King's Scouts" in. one troop that has yet been achieved. The lads will require to pay their own railway fares, but arrangements have been made for their stay in Wellington free of expense, hospitality (meaning both board' and lodging) being given by the Wellington Scouts to the visiting Scouts. Special train fares have been arranged for, and will be 3s 9d for those under 15, and 7s Gd for those of ];> years of age and over, return, from Hawera to Wellington and back. One condition is that they must be in uniform. They will require to leave here on Tuesday and arrive in Wellington the same night. The proposed general programme is as follows:— Wednesday. May 29. —4 p.m., guard of honor at Thorndon Station; '5 p.m., reception of officers and ex-officers; 7.1 o p.m., Scouts at Town Hall for guard: 8 p.m., public lecture by Chief Scout. Thursday, May 30.—9 a.m., rally nractice. Drill Hall, Buckley street. Mount Cook: 10 a.m., visit places of! interest in city; 2 p.m.. Scout troops at Newtown Park; 2.30 p.m., Scout1 rally; 3 p.m., Scout and Cadetn-eview; ' /.20 p.m., at Queen's Wharf. The Wellington executive adds a sug- I gestion in its circular that special atten- i tion should be given to warm clothing i and footwear, and those parents whose i boys are going would do well to see j to this. The district commander has to | telegraph on Thursday night the total number of scouts intending to go, so that names must all be in the scoutmaster's hands on or before that date. Whilst several of the lads have recently left the district, there is still a good number avnilnble. and it is hoped that they will oil be able to arrange to get away for the fo>ir days necessary to attend the reception.
