The woman said that she saw a hand inserted through an open window and abstract the jewellery from a table. Dr Donald stated that he heard a woman scream, and rushed to her assistance. The lady accused him of theft, and he was arrested. The Magistrate, in acquitting Donald, expressed sympathy with him.
