"SAY, HE'S WELL RIBBED UP!"

Someone at the official luncheon at the Sydney Show recently accused Lord Denham of being a judge of horses. "I am glad to know that the Governor-General is an authority upon horseflesh" remarked Lord Chelmsford. "though it is a dangerous thing to be an jmthority upon—(Lord Denham, amidst laughter, did not look unconscious) —especially in Australia —(more laughter)—but I feel perfectly certain he'il be able to keep his end up!" Lord Chelmsforth added an illustration of his proficiency in horsecraft. A friend, he said, told him before he came out to Australia that he would see a great many horses there, and that every Australian thought he knew all about a horse. The friend advised him always to keep his mouth shut about horses, but said there was one remark he might make about a horse, provided there wa3 no one but its owner near. He might say the horse was "well ribbed up." (Laughter.) "It won't matter even if it isn't," said the friend, "because everybody thinks his horse is well ribbed up!"
