The bachelors' ball referred to in my last notes came off last Thursday, the 3rd instant, and was a most enjoyable affair. The bachelors are to be congratulated upon achieving a* pronounced success. The floor was in first-class order, the walls tastefully decorated, and the catering all that heart could wish for. The night was fine and lady guests were present from far and near. The M.C.'s (Messrs Coates, Wishart, and Withers) were most assiduous in carrying out their duties. Dancing to the strains of good music was indulged in till 2 a.m.
Last Sunday harvest thanksgiving services were held in the hall, the officiating minister being the Rev. Mr Rands, recently appointed to the Kaponga Methodist circuit. Suitablo hymns were sung, and Mr Rands pk-eached an excellent sermon.
The following evening the usual social and auction sale of stock and produce were held. The night was fine .and the hall was filled. Mr Hollard, in 'sen earnest and practical speech, extended a cordial welcome to the minister on behalf of the local members of the church. Games for the young folk (indulged in also by their elders), and interspersed by some excellent singing, were the order of the evening. Then an excellent supper was served, followed.by the sale of the sheep and other stock and produce. Good prices were realised, Mr Long wielding the hammer, and "Charlie" helping materially by his spirited bidding. The enthusiastic workers (Messrs Steve Bennett, Anderson and Manns, and their wives and various other ladies of the congregation) must have felt gratified by the success of their efforts.
