This Board met on Thursday night. Present: Messrs Christie (chairman), Meuli, Bighaifl, and Borrie. A letter signed by several ratepayers complained of the state of the drain from the Manaia Hotel. The Chairman explained that there was no doubt about it being in a shocking state. —Resolved that the clerk write to the tenant pointing out that if the drain was not attended to that it will be reported to the Health OfScer- . Mr L. H. Wilson applied for permission to instal a wire and switchboard in the hall, and also to bring the wires across the street, in connection with his picture business. —Resolved, on the motion of Messrs Borrie and Meuli, that f ennission be given, so long as the applicant complied with the requirements of the Public Wdrks Act.

Mr Whau Rae applied for permission to build a gig-shed,jyhich was granted. From Palmevston North Chamber of -Commerce, asking local bodies to' approve of a resolution passed by it on enforcing the law relating to the comjiulsory provisions of the Defence -Act. —Resolved on the motion of Messrs Borrie and Meuli, that the Board endorsed the action. It was resolved, on the motion of Messrs Borrie and Meuli, that the clerk write to the secretaries of the Kaupokosiui, Riverdale, and Joll factories, also to the chairman of the Waimate West -County Council, informing them that a meeting is to be held in the Town Hall, Manaia, on, Tuesday next, at 7.30 p.m. concerning the Opunake Railway Commission.

J. H. Wilson applied to the Board to form a "footpath opposite his place, and also to have a light installed. The ■chairman stated that this was a bad time of the year to start that sort of work., and moved that Mr Wilson be informed that the work would receive consideration.

Messrs Meuli and Borrie (as a commit-, tee) reported: on lights required, and «,fter discussion it was resolved that the -clerk write to the secretary of the Electric Light Company asking him for a price to erect certain street lamps. Resolved that the clerk write to Mrs Wells, asking her if she will re-lease seer tion 8, block 21, to the Board for storing purposes-

The clerk was instructed to write to the Chairman of the Waimate West County Council pointing out the way in which Mr Tarrant was performing his duties as County Ranger. The cattle impounded off county roads from January 1 to May S. numbered only four, whereas town cows numbered 25.

Resolved, on the motion of Messrs Borrie and Bigham, that the clerk apply to the New Zealand State Guaranteed Advances Office for the extra 10 per cent, on the £2000 loan raised for -f;he purpose of re-metalling the Main Sonth road.

The Chairman explained that there were no tenders for the ric;ht to graze young cattle on the Domain, after advertising: foi- a week, and that he and Mr Meuli took it on themselves to let it to Mr J. Cassidv for four months at £1 per month from April 23. —Action approved of.

Mr Bigham reoorted that the cemetery fence was badly in need of two cross wires to keep the cattle out. and also that the paths required attending to. —The iratter was left in Mr Bigham's hands.

Accounts amounting to £773 were passed for payment.
