Mr Macrae served on several local bodies, and took a keen interest in local and general political affairs and was very generally respected for his many good qualities. . After the foregoing had been written, we received the following note from Mr James Bruce or Turakma: Many of your readers will be pained to hear of the death of Mr Ewen Macrae, intelligence of which reached me by cable yesterday. Mr Macrae was a Scotsman of a high type, and had many friends in the Hawera district, where he was very well known in the eighties. He had purchased an estate on the shores of Loch Duich, Scotland', but was living in Inverness' where his family were being educated! He was a devout man, and was not unprepared for that day which "cometh as a thief." He paid a visit- to the Dominion recently, leaving Auckland last July.
