TARANAKI WOOL, SKIN, HIDE AND TALLOW SALE.

MR NEWTON KING'S REPORT.

On Tuesday, January 16, I held my usual four-weekly sale of above produce, the catalogue comprising 159 bales and 212 sacks wool, 930 hides, 3604 sheepskins, 18 casks, and 33 tins tallow, 2dOB calfskins, besides the usual quantity of horse and cow hair, horse tails, bones, etc. There was a good attendance of buyers at.-the sale, competition being excellent throughout. Wool.— Up to the time of closing the catalogue this was not coming forward very freely, mainly through, shearing j being delayed, and in some cases to the difficulties in getting conveyances to get the wool in with. I, however, anticipate a big offering at my February sale, when most of the clips will then be in. Prices' for inferior and coarse crossbred were on a par with my last offering, but finer scrts were id higher. Skins. —Values for these were on a par with late rates. Hides.—These sold exceedingly well, the market showing an advance all round. Superior heavy advanced £d, medium and light id, ordinary |d to \d. Tallow.- -Ln sympathy with the London markets, this receded 20s to 25s per ton. Calfskins.—Very few ncrw offering, prices at par. I quote :— . Horse Hides, heavy 10s 6d to 13s: cut horses, 5s 6d to 6s. Tallow. Best mixed in casks, 25s 6d to 265; medium, 25s to 25s 3d; inferior, 14s 9d to 20s 3d. In tins, best lines, 23s 6d to 25s 9d; medium, 20s 3d to 23s 3d.

. Calfskins. Special lines, ICU, lOi, 10 5-8, 10|, to 11|, first 8 5-8, 9, 91, to lOcl, seconds; 8 to B£, fleshy, 7$ to 7%, 'slippy, 5 1-8 5%, sf, 6 to 6*dV cut, 6 1-8 to Bd, badly cut, 5d to s*d, dry, 3d to 4d each.

Horse hair, Is 3d, Is 7^d to Is 8d lb.. Horse tails, 6d each. Cow hair, 9£d lb. Cow tails, Is 7d doz. Pigskins, 2s 4d each. My next sale wili take place on Tuesday, February 13th.
