CANADA AND AUSTRALIA

THE RECIPROCITY QUESTION

B\ CABLE—PB,ESS ASSOUi&TION—COPYRIGHT,

(Received Jan. 29, 11 a.m.) MELBOURNE, Jan. 29. Mr Fisher, referring to the Canadian reciprocity cables, said the Commonwealth Government wanted to meet the Canadian 'representatives and talk over the matter. Until they understood one another they could not discuss the terms of reciprocity.

Mr Tudor states that he received no communication from Canada. Mr Foster's visit would he welcomed and woukl greatly facilitate preliminaries. Personally, he thought the Commonwealth was unlikely to grant preference to any articles wherein a profitable trade had ■been built up by means of the tariff. If they could promote trade without injury or with mutual benefit, it would le k splendid thing.
