Robinson • recovered £1000 damages from Louis Cohen, author, of <€A Book of Reminiscences of Kimberley," and £100 from Bennett, the publisher of the book. In the book it was alleged that Sir J. B. -Robinson's early career was as a. fraudulent dealer and swindler, and that he was a coward. Sir J. Robinson gave evidence that he lost his hearing through exposure on the Basuto battlefields, and that he had contributed £100,000 to assist the war against the Boers, and £80,000 after the restoration of "peace. He denied Cohen's ■allegations. Cohen gave evidence that Sir J. Robinson's reputation in South Africa was that.of a liar, coward, betrayer of women, "and an illicit diamond-buyer.
