WATER POWER SCHEME

• ELECTRIFICATION OF BRANCH

LINES

BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION,

WELLINGTON, Nov. 12. The Government electrical engineer, Mr Evan Parry, will visit Raetihi this week to investigate and report on the prospect of working electrically the proposed new branch of the railway from .the Main Trunk line to Raetihi. A local company had in view the construction of an electric tramway from llaetihi to the Main Trunk railway. Mr Parry's mission is to look into the matter and advise the Government before any steps are taken to put the ordinary branch railway in hand. The construction of this line, which will be about nine miles in length, was authorised last session under the Railways Authorisation Act; The new railway will go through some very valuable bush, which is already being operated upon by a number of sawmills, so that it is certain when the line is constructed that it will carry a fairly heavy timber traffic.
