A Sydney cable message announces tht» death of Mr Norman Selfe, engineer. He was the designer of the first oceangoing stenmer built in Australia, and also of three gunboats used by the New Zealand Government in the Maori war.

Mr M. Spillman, a popular member of the Hawera staff of the Stock Department, who is to be married this week at Tnvercargill, was, the other evening, presented by the boarders at Somerset House with a silver tea service. The presentation was made by Mr S. Greet, the proprietor. Mr Spillman proceeded south yesterday.
