RAILWAY MEN DECLINE A ROYAL COMMISSION.

(Received Aug. 18, 9.55 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 17. The Chronicle and Morning Leader uphold the principle of Conciliation Boards . The former declares that the sudden repudiation of the agreement of 1907, which would have ended in 1914, will alienate public sympathy. The railway managers' and railway men's representatives conferred separately with the Board of Trade . Mr Asmiith attended. The railway men's delegates declined the Government's offer of an immediate Royal Commission to enquire into the grievances respecting the working of the Conciliation Board . The managers offered to accept it. - Mr Asquith warned the railway men of the consequences of refusal.
