AMERICAN POLITICS.

COALITION OF REPUBLICANS

AND DEMOCRATS

BY CABLE—PBESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT

WASHINGTON, July 29

A coalition of Progressive Republicans and Democrats is impending, and a far-reaching revision of tariffs is probable. It is declared that the Farmers' Free List Bill, the compromised Wool Bill, and probably the "Cotton Bill will be passed, all lowering the duties. The main intention of the Farmers' Free List Bill is to recompense agriculturists for probable loss under the Canadian reciprocity agreement.

President Taft is pledged to await the report of th^e Tariff Board before assenting to new tariff legislation. Consequently the President is likely to be compelled to veto the above measures, which have been passed by a Republican vote. .
