CURIOUS SHOOTING AFFAIR.

MYSTERIOUS OCCUPANTS OF A

TAXI-CAB

What is the world coming to, when three steady young men cannot take the air after a warm day, seated on a bench in a good quarter of the city, without meeting with a misadventure, which has led to two of them being seriously injured? The trio had been taking a little stroll together the other evening in Paris after their work, and were chatting quietly while resting on a bench, when a taxi-cab sped round the corner, with five men in it. As it drew near the little party it slackened speed, and then its occupants, pulling out revolvers, fired as many as ten shots in the direction of the three friends, who fell from the bench without having the faintest idea as to the identity of their brutal assailants. Although, however, the taxi disappeared as swiftly as it had approached, one of them was able to note the number.

The wounded men were conveyed to the Beaujon Hospital, where their injuries were examined. The left arm of one had been pierced by a bullet. A bullet had lodged in the thigh of another. As for the third, he was only suffering from a bruise in the leg, caused,by the richochet of one of the projectiles. Police officials who questioned the wounded men could not obtain the faintest clue from them, except the number of the cab. "Working on this, they proceeded to the garago, only to learn from the chauffeur hat his fares had slipned out of the /e----hicle a little way further off, without paying for the drive.
