As already reported, the Hon. G. Fovvids, in liesponse to xne invitation oi tne lvietiiodist portion ot tne community, had promised to visit j^aponga at an early date and lay tne ioundationstone or tne new cnurcn about to be built tor that denomination in this town. Advice was received from tne Minister last evening that ne would be in kaponga on the 29th inst. to perlorm tne ceremony as promised. Mr Fowlds had also asked by local residents to,give a political speech in the Town. Hail the same nignt. As, however, he is delivering one in Eltham on the previous evening, and also at Stratford prior to returning to Wellington, he thought he migUt be dispensed1 with. Something in the nature of a conversazione will, however, be tendered him, which will give the Minister's friends and supporters of the Government in this town-an opportunity of meeting him. Mr Fowlds will deliver an unofficial address at this gathering. Five tenders were received for the erection of the new Methodist Church. As the figures quoted exceeded the available funds, it was decided to exclude the vestry portion for the present, thereby reducing the cost by £100, the tender finally accepted, being that of Mr C. S. Walker, of Kaponga, the amount being £591 10s. The building wul be a well-built wooden structure, slated roof, the internal walls and ceiling being of stamped steel. It will be built on the top end Of the section on the corner of Manaia and Kapuni roads.
