At about 1.15 p.m. Miss Jackson went Into the workroom and placed a pot of water on a gas-ring. She then left the room, and on returning five minutes later found it enveloped in flames, the gas evidently having ignited at the joint where the tube was attached to the wall. Miss Jackson at once ran to Jury's stables and gave the alarm. The Fire Brigade was promptly on the scene, and soon had the fire under control, but not before Miss Jackson had lost all her dressmaking appliances, which were valued at *fj> and were uninsured. Constable ii e j ' ° w? s the fir. st on the scene, pulled the.sewing machine through the window, but it was considerably damaged by the fire, and will be useless. The amount of insurance on the building was not ascertainable last night.
