THE OPUNAKE RAILWAY.

s DEPUTATION TO THE MINISTER. Mr (*. V. Pearce, M.P., is arranging for a deputation of local bodies interested to wait on the Hon. R. McKenzie. Minister for Public Works, on Monday afternoon to urge upon him the desirability of constructing the Opunake railway to junction at Norman »y. At the meeting of the Hawera Borough Council on Friday night the Mayor (Mr Barton) read a telegram from Mr Pearce asking the Council to join in the deputation, The Mayor spoke m support of Mr Pearce's request, saying that he did not think having the line through to Normanby would have any bad effect upon Hawera. Normanby would ultimately become a part of Greater Hawera; Hawera would always be able to maintain its hold as a big commercial centre. The Mayor moved that this Council form itself into a deputation with Mr Pearce to wait upon the Minister for Public Works to urge upon him the construction of the Opunake railway, making a junction at Normanby. Cr Sargeson, in seconding the motion, mentioned that the Borough Council had advocated the Normanby route on several occasions. The motion was carried.
