Mr F. Simpson, Commissioner for; Crown Lands, Taranaki, retires from the service on April 30. The vacancy is to be filled by Mr W. Armstrong, at present chief draughtsman in the Dunedin office. Mr Simpson joined the Government service in 1875, and became Commissioner of Crown Lands in 1904.

On Thursday evening Mr Boydj who is. leaving for Auckland, and who has been associated with the Presbyterian Church, in Hawera for 30 years, a portion of which he has been an elder, was pres«nted by the office bearers on behalf of the congregation with a beautiful illuminated address handsomely framed.. The preparation of the address had been, entrusted to Mr W. P. Williams, and the work had been very cleverly executed, embodying not only an expression of the high esteem in which Mr Boyd was held as a church worker, but much to keep him in remembrance of the place which has so long been his home. In the ornamental work, features of Taranaki, and particularly of Hawera, are given prominence, Mount Egmont, the Presbyterian church and school, the Post Office, Borough Chambers, and native ferns and grasses all find a place. The address bore the signatures of the office bearers of the Church.
