. . WELLINGTON, Jan. 25. Horatio M. Lyon, aged sixty year.^. one of _ Wellington's best known citizens', met his death in a tragic manner this afternoon.^ He had been attending the races at Trentham, and left the course to return to the city by an early train. Lyon was crossing the line to reach the platform on the other side, and being short-sighted, did not notice that a train was approaching. Ho was struck by the incoming train, and practically cut to pieces. His body was only recovered by raising the carriages by the use of jacks, and it was then found to be horribly mutilated, showing that death must" have been instantaneous. The deceased was for many years the secretary of the Wellington Racing Club, in which capacity he was widely known. lie was five year* secretary of the Wellington Harb«r Board.
