Mr T. MacKinnon Wood, \Jnder-Sec-retary to the Foreign Office, replying to Mr Douglas Hall, says the Egyptian Government's intention to abide by the Assembly's decision -was reached after consultation with Sir Eldon- Gorst, British Agent and Consul-General, and with his consent ; but the Imperial Government was in nowise influenced by jthe decision not to extend the concession.

The British Government's interest in the Canal Company would terminate with the concession.
