The cheese market is steady, but the demand is only moderate. Average price New Zealand finest white cheese 62s per cwt, colored 60s 6d. Cheese transhipped from the Kaipara is making Is per cwt less. M\itton: The market is weaker, with a tendency downwards. On account of the high prices shipments are being made from the Continent. Average price for Canterbury mutton is 4|d; xNorth Island mutton, 4|d. Lamb : The market is quiet, but there is a good demaaid for all descriptions. Average price Canterbury lamb sfd per lb; other New Zealand s£d. Beef: The market is dull. Supplies of American chilled beef are large. Average price New Zealand hindquarters 4|d, forequarters 3|d. Australian chilled forequarters ex Marathon realised 3Jd. Hinds were reported the previous week as sold at about 3|d. Hemp: The market is dull for New Zealand. Prices on spot — Good fair £24 10s per ton, fair £23 10s, nominal; April-June shipment — good fair, £24 ; fair £23. The stock of New Zealand hemp on hand is 208 tons. The week's output at Manila was 32,000 bales.
