FATAL FIRE NEAR CHRISTCHURCH.

CHRISTCHURCH, April 10. At a fire which occurred in a fourroomed' dwelling in Alexandra street, Richmond, this morning, the owner and occupier or tho premises, MrD. Buckett, fifty years of ago, a bricklayer and plasterer, was burned to death. Mr Bucketfs wife and family are at present away in the North Island, and the neighbors were unawaro that the house was occupied, assuming that Buckett was out of town on a shooting expedition. '

Apparently no on© observed the fire until the building was a mass of flames. It was only when the fire brigade were "turning over the debris after the fire had been got under that a fireman came upon Buckett's charred remains.

The building and contents are insured in tho London and Liverpool and Globe Offices, but the amount is unascortainabte.
