THE NGAIRE INCIDENT.

' Doubtful" writes on the "Ngaire incident" of which so much has alreadybeen said. We can only find space for the point of his letter, which is as follows : At Mangatoki Mr Wake said that a personal friend of his had spoken to Mr Cumberwprth about it, and that the latter gentleman could not remember it being said; but recollected a letter in '.the paper,', and. signed by a Mr Cumber worth, to the effect that, being chairman of a meeting in Ngaire, he heard the statement made. Now if Mr Wake ' is innocent of the charge, why does he not publish a denial from Mr Cumberwojth ; and surely, being a lawyer, he knows well there is room for' an action against the person by whom the charge was made if he can I prjove it '^falfie.
