GENERAL ELECTION.
A CHINAMAN TAKES CHARGE.
[PRKSS ASSOCIATION.?
WELLINGTON, November 7
Much amusement was caused at an election meeting in Newtown last night by a local Chinaman taking charge of the proceedings at one stage. The candidate expressed himself in favor of excluding Chinese altogether, upon which "Joe" jumped up and protested, but had to sit down. Later on he got an innings, and in very good English said that the "Government takes his £100 poll tax, and then a man comes on the platform and wants to chuck him out of the country. What sort of a man was that?" Despite interruptions the Chinese riator managed to get in a short address of his own, and used the word "judicial" once, and informed the audience he thought they did not know/ the meaning of it. The Chinaman's appearance on the platform put the audience in a very good humor.
