HORSE FAIR

The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., commenced- their supplementary spring horse fair on Friday. There was a fair attendance, although only a few outside buyers put in an appearance, this being probably due to the dulness of the markets in other centres. Owing no doubt to ,the inclemency of the weather, a number of horses catalogued did not come in. Those offered were on the whole, good conditioned, and comprised principally draughts, farm, and van horses. Prices all round were decidedly in favor of purchasers, and horses, excepting those of the bost quality, were hard to quit. However, a good number changed hands, many of these being purchased' for the Wellington province. The sale is being continued to-day, principally hacks, light harness, and carriage horses being offered. Draughts brought from £26 to £85 10s, lighter sorts £20 to £29, unbroken light draughts £15 15s to £23, half-draughts, (unbrpken) £10. 10s to £21 10s, carriage horses up , to ,4-23 IQz, two draught, hgrseg (aged), dray and harness £80, }
