FAMILY POISONED BY GAS.

A family by the name of Cunningham removed from Alva to Alloa, Scotland, on a Saturday morning,, and took up residence in a one-roomed house near the foot of the street. The family consisted of father, mother and seven children. The Town Council authorities were present, engaged in putting in a new gas main in Candleriggs, and , making new connections with the properties' along, the route of the track. Almost ' the last connection made before the .workman stopped on Saturday was that with the property in which the Cunninghams occupied a room. On 'Sunday, a strong amell of coal or sewer gas was felt by the Cunningham family, and, as a matter of fact, four of the children r were ill and vomiting. The wiridpw in th.c room was open most of the day, arid by night the offensive odor seemed, to have considerably abatecL At all events the smell did not seem to be sufficiently obnoxious to warrant, any complaint being made to the burg authorities, and no complaint was made. The first of the family to awaken was the eldest girl (eighteen), who is employed in Kilncraig's factory. She felt far from well, but dressed and went off to work, although some time afterwards she was more than once seized with vomiting fits. ; The father and mother woke up about eight-; o'clock. The father complained 'of a severe headache, while the mother ,alsb f ;felt ill, but rose before 9 o'clock. Going, to the bed where the children slept,- Mrs, Cunningham was startled by the appearance of her two boys, William and James, aged six and eight : respectively, aridi suspecting that something was seriously wrong, she sent for a\doptor.r ayhett/the doctor arrived, however, both, the boys were found to fbe. dfead/, having been suffocated with the gas .fumes.
