After the service the parchments were taken to Lloyds Bank .iji Cheapside and counted up by the treasurer of the congress and a staff df tellers. Grand total .'. ... 333,20a.'0 11 J To some .of the parchments whioh the bishops laid on the- altar slips of paper were pinned, proclaiming' gifts" which could not be expressed in terms of money A characteristic example came from Birmingham, The attached slip bore in fair lettering the following words: — "May God Almighty accept' this iinwor-" thy offering for the Pan-Anglican thanksgiving instead of money. 1 desire that this bo offered at\St. Paul's, 1 and I pra.T that after it has been pro- 1 suited it may fall into the hands of some earnest missionary who will win thousands of souls for the Lord Jesus i Christ." The gift was a silver watch.
AU the parchments were in the same form. The largest offering ran:— Pan-Anglican Congress, 1908. St. John the Baptist's Day, June 24, 1908. St. Paul's Cathedral. On behalf of the Diocese, I desire herewith humbly to present and offer for the service of God ajid His Church the sum of thirty-four thousand -three hundred and Ifhirtysix pounds, sixteen shillings, being a free-will offering in thankfulness for blessings vouch-safed to the Anglican Communion in its growth and spiritual development. \ A.
