HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE. [press association.! WELLINGTON, Augiist 9. The High Commissioner's cable dated London, August 8, says:— Mutton: The market is quiet and rather steadier. River Plate mutton is in large supply and is being strongly pushed for sale. Following are the curTent quotations : Canterbury mutton 4d, North Island 3*d. ' Lamb: The market is steady and there is a very good demand. Canierbury lamb 5f d, other than Canterbury s*d. l' , '' "'".'. There is a better demand for beef and the 'market is firmer. Hind quarters are quoted at 4d and fore quarters at 2|d. . Butter— The market is quiet and firm and choicest -New Zealand brandc are quoted at ll6s (nominal), Danish 1225, Siberian 108s per cwt. ... There has .been no alteration in the cheese market since last week. The hemp market is Very' dull. * Current quotations:, Good to fair grade on spot' £26'; fah\ grade on spot £22 10s ; fair current Manila on spot £22.
