Steps are being taken to secure a commutation of sentence of death on Manning for the murder of his wife near Bendigoi The daughter of . the condemned man declares that her father is not insane, but it pays him to be insane just now. If he was insane he would have killed her mother at home and not have lured her to a lonely spot. She adds : •"I think he should be hanged, the wicked man. Ido not care what becomes of him so long as he is not let but. Hanging would be a just punishment. He has broken up our home and taken the life of a loving mother and a good wife.*
