AWATUNA EAST.

"(From Our Own Correspondent.) A cricket match was being played in a paddock not far from the new Kapuoi bmdge on Sunday. The boisterous humor that was so flagrantly displayed by the participants, and' the number of horses and bicycles which lined the fence, would make one think that a holiday festival was in full swing, rather than the usual quietness and rest which we usually «ssociate with the Sabbath day.

To those -who journeyed a distance to hear the Rev. Gibson, of Hawesra, preach his farewell sermon at Matapu on Sunday a rare toeat from a, theological standpoint was in store. His subject was the inspiration of the Bible, and 1 he treated hie subject in a manner that made us all regret -when his time was up. No report of any kind •ever appears in the press about the orditnary Sunday services, aaid while a minister may exercise a wide influence in a town of, say, the size of Hawera, we in tho country, unless he comes to visit us, know nothing of what kind of man he is ; and we never even get a brief account in the papers a.s is often usual in the Old Country of specimens of his oratory or of his best thought.
