Some interesting figures bearing on the Greater Aucklamd question have been compiled in regard to the rating of the' different bodies intereatcdu It is ahown that in «evern.l cases *he rates of th« suburbs, which are only partially or imperfectly drained, are as high, or even higher, thnn those of the city, and Eden Terrace, a small road board district which has evinced a strong hostility to tho Greater Auckland movement, pays considerably more in rates than the city ; whilst tho borough of Newmarket, which ha* gained the unenviable .notoriety of being one of the worst kept boroughs im •the. Dominion, hna to pay as- much or • mqare than the city. The ficures fetid to show that it would be greatly to the advantage of the smaller "bodies. to" throw in their lot -with the city, .especially in view of the projected drainage' scheme. Parata and the New Zealand Rugby Union. Mr Parata has been informed that the Union would willingly do what it could to arrange the match, but the itinerary bos' already been drawn up, and the matter must be left to the visitors. There is just a chance that a match may be arranged for Rotor ua during the visitors' stay there. It was at Rotorua that the Icust English team played a native fifteen, but in the proposed event the Maoris would be representative of the whole Dominion, and. would not be merely a local team, xi is said that out of the fifteen, ten would be interprovincial players. .
